International nursing guide
Prepare for nursing in New Zealand: explore NCNZ registration, sponsorship job searches, accredited employers and official AEWV and residence guidance.

Registration does not guarantee employment. Compare vacancies with your specialty, experience and registration stage before paying for travel or setting a relocation date. GoToCV’s New Zealand inventory varies; also check current employer career pages. Ask whether an employer considers overseas applicants for the particular vacancy rather than assuming every nursing role is open to international recruitment.
Start with the Nursing Council of New Zealand’s internationally qualified nurse guidance. For the general overseas route, documents are verified through TruMerit before an application to the Council. Nurses with a current Australian practising certificate have a separate route. The Council assesses each application and determines any competence assessment required; do not assume every applicant needs the same examinations. Check current registration and practising-certificate requirements before starting work.
NCNZ international nurse requirementsCandidates often search for nursing jobs with visa sponsorship, while New Zealand employers may refer to accreditation and work-visa support. These are not interchangeable with a promise of approval. Overseas applicants considered, relocation assistance and employer accreditation each describe different things. Ask whether the specific role and employer can support your proposed application and obtain the employment terms in writing.
An AEWV application requires an offer from an appropriately accredited employer and must meet the current visa requirements. The employer supplies the application link. A job advertisement alone is not enough to establish eligibility. Use Immigration New Zealand’s live guidance for the role, employer and applicant requirements instead of relying on a generic sponsorship label.
Immigration New Zealand AEWV requirementsIf you are considering a Green List residence pathway, check the exact occupation and current criteria with Immigration New Zealand. Do not treat nursing registration, an employer’s accreditation or a possible pathway as an approved residence application. Obtain advice from an appropriately authorised immigration professional when deciding which route fits your circumstances.
Immigration New Zealand Green ListDescribe your actual NCNZ progress, clinical scope, recent experience and work rights accurately. Tailor examples to the vacancy and prepare to discuss patient safety, cultural safety and teamwork. Ask about orientation, location, hours and any conditions on relocation support. Keep employer correspondence and next steps together; GoToCV helps prepare and track your application but does not submit it or secure employment.
