International nursing guide
Plan an Australian nursing move: check Ahpra registration, understand sponsorship job signals, prepare applications and confirm work rights with official sources.

Treat registration, employment and immigration as separate decisions. Before committing to travel or a start date, identify the registration steps that apply to you and compare current vacancies with your clinical experience. An employer’s interest does not establish your registration or visa eligibility.
Use the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia’s international applicant guidance and official self-check. Follow the assessment stages assigned to your qualifications and circumstances; do not assume another nurse’s route applies to you. Keep qualification records, registration evidence and employment history organised, and use the regulator’s current instructions for English-language evidence and other registration standards.
NMBA self-check and assessment guidanceLook for the employer’s actual wording about sponsorship and overseas applicants. Relocation assistance may cover a move without providing visa sponsorship. Ask whether the specific vacancy supports an overseas applicant at your registration stage, which visa subclass the employer supports, and whether any experience or location conditions apply. Save the advertisement and written response with your application.
GoToCV’s 482 and 186 pages include explicit subclass mentions and broader sponsorship opportunities. A subclass mention describes the advertisement; it is not confirmation of a nomination or your eligibility. Check Home Affairs for the current employer-sponsored visa options, including Skills in Demand (482) and Employer Nomination Scheme (186), and consult a registered migration agent for advice on your circumstances.
Home Affairs employer-sponsored visa optionsState your registration status precisely: in progress and registered are different. Present your specialty, clinical responsibilities, recent experience and relevant training against the vacancy criteria. Explain your current work rights, sponsorship needs and realistic availability without claiming approvals you do not hold. Prepare examples of teamwork, patient safety and clinical judgement for interview.
Ask for the role, location, hours, pay, registration conditions and any relocation arrangements in writing. Check the employer’s application channel and clarify any repayment conditions attached to relocation support. Build your timeline from confirmed requirements rather than a generic migration estimate. GoToCV helps organise applications; you submit them to employers yourself.
